The Vancouver Canucks have continued their winning streak to end the month of November on a high note and Roberto Luongo extended his shutout run to 3 games, not allowing a goal for a total of 193 minutes and 59 seconds - a new franchise record. The ‘Nucks are 9-1-2 in their last 12; the 2007 Western Conference finalists are starting to look like a force to be reckoned with going into December!

Nashville 6 - Ottawa 5

November 29, 2007

The Nashville Predators came out on top in a tough battle with the slumping Ottawa Senators tonight, winning the game 6-5 in regulation. Nashville’s goals came from Hamhuis, De Vries, Dumont, Suter, Gelinas and Erat. Ottawa’s goals were scored by Crovo, Vermette, Heatley, Spezza, and Alfredsson.

The high-paced game saw the Predators in the lead nearly the entire game with Ottawa coming back from several one-goal deficits to tie the game. Daniel Alfredsson tied the game at 5 with Martin Gerber out of the net and only 45 seconds remaining only to have Erat score another for Nashville 23 seconds later - the game winner as it turned out.

Ottawa increases its losing streak to 4 games; that means a slowly closing gap between them and the Canadiens in the Northeast Division. If Montreal can capitalize and take 4 points home over the weekend when they battle New Jersey (Friday) and Nashville (Saturday) we could see a new division leader before too long!

NHL Scheduling Matrix Changed

November 29, 2007

The National Hockey League’s Board of Governors today approved a scheduling matrix which ensures that each Club will play every other Club a minimum of once per season. The format will go into effect for the 2008-2009 season.

Each Club will play the teams in its division three times at home and three times on the road, for a total of 24 games. Each Club will continue to play 40 games inside its conference but outside its division (10 opponents) twice at home and twice on the road. That brings the in-conference total to 64 games and maintains the integrity of a Conference-based playoff system.

The remaining 18 games in the 82-game schedule will involve each Club playing each Club in the other conference at least once, home or away, with the three remaining games being devoted to interconference “at-large” scheduling.

The format represents a change from the matrix approved by the Board for the 2005-06 campaign. That format called for four games (40 total) against each non-division conference opponent, eight games (32 total) against each in-division opponent and 10 inter-conference games – one game at home against each of the five clubs from a designated division and one game on the road against all five clubs from a different division.

David Koci Vs. Wade Belak

November 29, 2007

A nice little scrap between David Koci (who would go on to be whooped by Zdeno Chara a month later) and Wade Belak of the Maple Leafs.

David Koci Vs. Zdeno Chara

Zdeno Chara bashes poor David Koci’s face in - probably the most blood I’ve seen resulting from an on-ice fight.

Zdeno Chara Vs. Bryan McCabe

November 29, 2007

Ottawa Senators’ Zdeno Chara looks like the trained wrestler he is as he tosses the Leafs’ Bryan McCabe around like a ragdoll.

Ottawa Senators Vs. Philadelphia Flyers

November 29, 2007

I’m not sure about the exact date on this game but it was practically a 60 minute brawl with at least 15 different fights taking place throughout the bench-clearing brawls.
